What is solutions journalism?

Solutions journalism is a community-minded approach to the news—one that goes above and beyond merely reporting the news, instead focusing on individuals and organizations engaged in the critical work of solution design.

As a community-based solutions journalism network, SJICN celebrates our collaborative spirit, the results of our work and the quality and wonders of life in the San Juan Islands.

What is San Juan Islands Community Network (SJICN)?

San Juan Islands Community Network (SJICN) is a community non-profit solutions journalism subsidiary of Navigating Our Future, a 501(c)(3) organization, that explores our community’s challenges and opportunities from a solutions perspective.

SJICN’s mission is to leverage solutions journalism to inform and inspire community dialogue, deliberation, decision-making and action with the goal of creating a more equitable, self-sufficient, resilient and regenerative future for all human and non-human life in the San Juan Islands.

What does SJICN do?

SJICN publishes digital video news stories with supporting print materials about issues that affect the San Juan islands, spotlighting the individuals and organizations engaged in developing solutions to these issues and designing a more thriving future for human and non-human life in the region.
